Vegas Golden Knights – NHL 2017 Draft Lottery

The Vegas Golden Knights are an official NHL team, which brings plenty of excitement for Sin City.  With the team set to debut in early October, the draft lottery resulted in the Vegas Golden Knights securing the 6th overall pick.

It would have been great to land the top overall selection to get a player like Connor McDavid or Auston Matthews, however picking 6th could still result in a cornerstone player for the franchise.

Just last year in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Calgary Flames selected Matthew Tkachuk with the same pick.

Tkachuk so far has proven to be a serviceable player in the NHL.  Not only is he building a reputation as a “villian” that opposing fans will love to hate, he produced decent stats compared to other rookies of the 2016-17 season.  His 35 assists placed him 4th among rookies, and a plus/minus of 14 put Tkachuk 3rd in that category.  Taking a glance at NHL history, one of the better all-time players who was selected with the 6th pick was Peter Forsberg.

Fans of the Vegas Golden Knights should not worry too much about losing the opportunity to land the first overall selection in the NHL Entry draft.  The more pressing event regarding the makeup of the team will be decided with the Expansion Draft. Buckle up.
